While recognition of the problem is much easier in little children as parents often help them to bath, dress up atc., it is much more difficult when we talk about teenagers. Especially girls do not like getting undressed in front of their parents, which makes any changes within the spine or the torso more likely to be overlooked, between 11 and 14 years old in particular, when scoliosis is most probable to develop. We should examine our child every 3-4 months.
We should look at the child:
- we evaluate the symmetry of the alignment of the head, shoulders, waist triangle and hips,
When looking at the child from behind we pay attention to:
- the position of the head, whether it is not tilted to one side,
- the position of the shoulders and shoulder blades, whether they are symmetrical and at the same level,
- the symmetry of the so called waist triangle (indentation of the waist) and whether one hip sticks out too far to the side,
- alignment of the spine, whether it is bent in one direction,
- we also observe whether the gluteal folds are at one level, how the knees and feet are positioned,
- check that the medial ankles of the feet are not too close together,
