How to treat scoliosis ?

Patients with scoliosis are treated at our centre both on an outpatient basis and during rehabilitation holidays. We provide therapy for scoliosis, postural defects and Scheuermann's disease.

The visit begins with a clinical examination.

Due to the nature of the deformity, the clinical examination should include a three-plane assessment of the patient. During the examination, we seek to answer the essential questions:

1) whether we are dealing with structural scoliosis:

2) whether it is idiopathic scoliosis:

3) what is the risk of progression.

The examination begins with a detailed history taking, among other things, information on: the time of diagnosis of scoliosis, previous treatment, the onset of the first menstrual period (in girls), the occurrence of scoliosis in the family. The data collected also include developmental history and past medical history.

The clinical examination includes: measurement of body weight, body height in standing and sitting positions; assessment of the child's figure (in both static and dynamic positions); assessment of the alignment of selected anatomical points; determination of the course of the spinous processes of the thoracic and lumbar vertebrae; examination of trunk compensation using a plumb line or laser; scoliometer assessment of the KRT value in the Adams test; assessment of sagittal plane alignment in the inclinometer test. The examination also includes assessment of muscular imbalance, pelvic alignment test, assessment of lower limb length, assessment of foot alignment. The possibility of a quick and non-invasive assessment of the body is provided by selected methods of body surface topography and digital photography.

The scoliosis parameters in the X-ray image are then analysed.

After this examination, we determine the goals of therapy together with the CHILD and the parents and proceed to the individual selection of exercises.

5-day rehabilitation camp with parents - includes daily 3 hours of exercises (individual therapy and hall exercises adapted to each child). We carry out a full clinical examination with the use of objective measurement tools including: scoliometer, inclinometer, plumb line, laser, ScoDiac system. We carry out examinations at the beginning and at the end of the turnout. Parents receive full documentation of their child and have the opportunity to record home exercises.
